Thursday Thoughts: Improve Writing at the Paragraph Level
We know it seems like there are so many elements to writing: researching, writing clear sentences, creating a thesis, supporting ideas, introducing, concluding, responding to others, citing... and the list goes on. However, have you ever stopped to think about paragraphing as an important writing skill? Paragraphs are the building blocks of a piece of writing. They are small chunks of understanding that work to focus on, and develop, a small piece of the entire paper. Creating solid paragraphs makes it that much easier to build the entire paper.

Dig into Development with our New Module!
The Walden University Writing Center has some exciting news to share! We recently released a new module: Introduction to Paragraph Development. This module will join our existing modules related to grammar, plagiarism, and APA style.
What can you expect to learn in the Introduction to Paragraph Development module? Throughout the tutorials, students can learn:

What can you expect to learn in the Introduction to Paragraph Development module? Throughout the tutorials, students can learn:
- What makes an academic paragraph
- How to use topic sentences
- The importance of sticking to one idea per paragraph
- Ways to wrap up paragraphs
All of our modules are fully-interactive and self-paced. After you take the pre-test, you will have access to all of the tutorials. This means you can work on them as you wish. After you finish a module and take the post-test, you will earn a certificate of completion.

Achievement Unlocked: Positive Feedback Received on Writing Center Modules
Dear Writers. We are quite proud of the resources we create for our Walden writers, and from time to time on the blog we share some of those resources with you. A while back, we shared one of our most interactive, learner-centered with you: Our Writing Center Modules on Avoiding Plagiarism, Learning APA Style, and Practicing Grammar Skills. We're excited to share these resources with you again because of the great feedback we've been getting since that first post in February.
Here's how it works. Start by taking the premodule quiz to find out your areas of need. Then, move through the tutorials, focusing on the resources that appeal most clearly to your learning style. After you've completed the tutorials at your pace, then take the postmodule quiz and see how you did. And, since we believe in rewarding a job well done, you can also obtain your certificate of completion upon finishing.
Based on our assessment, students who complete these Modules show high levels of skill in the topic areas, confidence in their writing, and satisfaction with these learning tools. We've created a handy infographic with our data so you can see for yourself. And we're not the only ones who noticed. Recently, these Writing Center Modules won an Effective Practice Award from the Online Learning Consortium (we'll post more about that on the Blog soon).

Thursday Thoughts: A Revamped Writing Resource You've Maybe Never Used
Readers of this blog know about lots of the Walden U Writing
Center resources like our live webinars,

and our R.E.M.-inspired blog posts. But we recently upgraded one of our lesser-known but extremely helpful
writing resource that you’ve maybe never used: Writing Modules. Our two most
popular series of modules, Plagiarism Prevention and APA References &
Citation, have recently been completely revamped and updated.
